about

work in progress 8 blackwhite.jpg

The Austrian sculptor Manfred Hellweger (*1986) lives and works in Pettneu am Arlberg and Nesselgarten near Fliess in Tyrol.

His artistic journey began at the Technical School for Art and Design in Elbigenalp (Tyrol), where he graduated as a sculptor in 2004. Driven by his passion for material and form, he soon established himself as a freelance artist. In 2013, he further honed his skills by earning a degree in stone sculpting from the renowned Technical School for Stone Working in Laas (South Tyrol).

Hellweger has participated in more than 30 international sculpture symposia and has shown his work in numerous national and international exhibitions. His sculptures can be found in collections around the world, including Japan, Singapore, USA, Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Austria.

CREATIVE PROCESS AND INSPIRATION

The artist Manfred Hellweger explores fundamental questions of meaning and values in human existence. His art reflects the dynamics of life, the constant change of the world and the transience of all things.

His distinctive sculptures are primarily made of wood, stone and metal - materials that symbolize both solidity and mutability.

Hellweger deliberately uses simple geometric forms such as cubes, strips, planks, nails or shaped tubes. These elements are assembled through various techniques into mostly figurative works that taper toward the bottom. This artistic approach gives the impression that his sculptures visually dissolve into the vertical, creating a flowing, almost floating dynamic.

Through this formal language, the artist alludes to the impermanence of being: nothing remains as it is - everything is in motion, in development, in transition.

His works invite viewers to reflect on their own transience and to become more aware of the present moment.

Despite their minimalist formal language, Hellweger's sculptures are expressive and rich in symbolic depth. His deliberate reduction to the essential represents an attitude of mindfulness and simplicity - a plea against the increasing sensory overload and excess of the modern world.

His artistic credo is not "more and more," but rather "back to the essential.
In an age of relentless progress and fast-paced

living, Manfred Hellweger's works serve as a reminder, that true essence is often found in simplicity.
